I am Darwin, and yes I have a theory. My mother named me Darwin because she likes the name. I believe my name has a lot to do with my life and how I eventually ended up in Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand and built this site.

I was born in the shadow of two volcanoes in northern California. My childhood was between there and Oregon, mostly on farms and in the country. I developed a love for nature and exploration during this time. Due to living in a somewhat isolated environment I had to rely on my imagination for companionship and entertainment. My early days were a determining factor in my career choice as a soldier.

The years I spent as a soldier were full of experiences and learning. That time in my life was rewarding as well as challenging. My travel bug was satisfied by my travels throughout North America, to include Mexico and Canada. My time in Europe and the many countries I experienced there. Then towards the end I was mostly in Asia. Experiencing other cultures first hand is incomparable. I highly recommend it. Seeing how others live open up life to making the most. It also increases understanding. Even though I achieved a bachelor degree and love education I feel best and most useful knowledge I have received was from hands on eduaction through living.

After my army career ended and I knew it was time to move on. I looked around at my options and was certain the 9-5 life was not for me. My contributions and enjoyment come from doing and experiencing. For me an office is a coffin. I took jobs in sales while searching a place I can live and enjoy life with a good lifestyle.

I was introduced to Ubon Ratchathani when I was still a soldier. I came here for training with Thai soldiers and airmen. I loved the E-sarn people, food and culture, not to mention the weather. It just seemed the natural place for me to settle down in Thailand. Well, not settle down, a home base from which I can travel to and explore other places and peoples.

Follow your dreams to optimize your life. Your dream might be painting or writing. Your dream might be taking care of foster children or being a doctor. Whatever your dreams are, they are your dreams. Follow your dreams and live your life. One life, live it. My name is Darwin and that's my theory.
